Urørt – a biking adventure in Alvdal

We are on our way up the hill by bike to climb Tronfjell, 1666 masl. A little tired already and halfway up we are overtaken by a car with a trailer. Shiny trail bikes are shining, and we understand that some people choose an easier way up to experience the trails by bike than us. We have heard about Urørt, the family business in Alvdal, which has developed a complete bicycle offer from its small farm in the idyllic mountain village in Nord-Østerdal. Of course, it is them who have arranged it, enabling the trail cyclists to get to the slopes in Tron. After a while, we meet the cyclists, who push the soft and mossy paths down the mountain. We feel a bit envious, stop talking and listen; yes, they are on tour organized from Urørt. The smiles are huge in pure joy over the paths that are in the mountains here.

There are 250 km of cycle paths formed by nature right outside the yard of the small farm and family site that houses Urørt, with host Audun at the helm. The small farm is located along the road to Alvdal Vestfjell. Here we find our very own cycling destination. Here there is accommodation, Urørt Lodge, bicycle workshop, washing station, bicycle rental and a shop with local goods. It could not be better for those interested in cycling and touring! Here is everything you could wish for if you take a cycling weekend or maybe a whole week. The menu includes guiding, courses, tours and events. A lot is in Urørt’s home region, but they also offer experiences in other areas – both in Norway and outside the country’s borders. In addition, they not only do cycling, but also hiking and skiing experiences. Urørt is a year-round provider of experiences based at the top of Østerdalen.

Alvdal is perhaps not the most famous mountain area, where it is located next to the more known areas Rondane and Dovrefjell. You will definitely be surprised by  how nice it is to cycle here. Alvdal’s location along the Røros railway line also provides a unique opportunity to make the cycling holiday more pleasant and even more sustainable. Urørt has launched several experiences where you use train – both for transport to Alvdal, and as a stage of the bike ride. The experiences “From Rørosbanen to Dovrebane” and “From seats to spa” can be found in the menu of Urørt Trains.

– For us, it is a matter of course that we should make it both easy and tempting to choose a green way of traveling. The development of experiences that include trains is important to us at Urørt, says Audun. – If you take the train to Alvdal and use the farm road and the paths between the Røros railway line and the Dovre line on two wheels, you contribute to sustainability and have a greener holiday.

Throughout the last year, the old Stein Hotel and Skydsstation, which has been recently renovated and has become a great place to stay, has opened. Another novelty is Baugsberget Fjelltopphytter, which is another unique experience on Baugsberget with a great view. Fjellbygda is better equipped than it has been for a long time to offer not only beautiful nature and walking tours in the mountains, but also varied and exciting accommodation.

In January, Urørt Ski and Cycling Adventures will participate in TravelXpo at Telenor Arena. Active holiday by bike is one of the things that will be on the menu at the fair. If you have not been to Alvdal and tested the trips from Urørt before that, take note of the fair in January and be inspired by Audun and his colleagues there. In the meantime, click on the website and see if you are tempted to set course for Alvdal.
